MSU announces 2008 softball schedule
Missouri State University softball will host 19 games on 12 home dates in 2008 and compete in four early season tournaments, director of athletics Bill Rowe announced Wednesday.
Missouri State will open the season Feb. 15 against Long Island University in the Florida Atlantic "Strike Out" Cancer Tournament in Boca Raton, Fla. The Bears will play five games in the tournament and five more the following weekend in the University of Tulsa Tournament before hosting Central Arkansas in the home opener Feb. 27.
MSU will then play four games in the All-Missouri Breast Cancer Tournament (March 1-2) in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Tournament foes include UMKC, Saint Louis and Southeast Missouri State with the fourth to be determined. Games against Minnesota, Elon, Mercer, Georgia Tech and a fifth against an opponent to be determined await the Bears March 7-9 at the Georgia Tech Buzz Classic in Atlanta, Ga.
Road doubleheaders with Oklahoma State (March 18) and Kansas (March 26), and home twinbills against Tulsa (April 23) and Arkansas (April 29) round out a challenging non-conference slate for the Bears.
In conference play, Missouri State will host Indiana State (March 14-15), Illinois State (March 21-22), Wichita State (April 2), Bradley (April 5-6) and Southern Illinois (April 26-27), and travel to Wichita State (March 25), Drake (March 29-30), UNI (April 12-13), Evansville (April 19-20) and Creighton (May 3-4). The State Farm MVC Tournament will take place May 8-10 at Carbondale, Ill.
Coach Holly Hesse enters her 20th season as head coach with an overall record of 501-479-2. The Bears return four seniors and all but one regular from last year’s 21-29 club.
