2012 Missouri State Softball Schedule Announced

Missouri State head softball coach Holly Hesse announced the completion of her team's 2012 schedule today. The schedule includes 21 home games, six against 2011 NCAA Tournament field opponents, five against Big 12 opponents and 14 conference games.
"I think there is a great opportunity to get off to a good start," said head coach Holly Hesse. "Memphis and Missouri will be good early season tests for us. We will also face some new teams which is always fun. We will face some tough competition at home."
The Bears will begin their 43rd season of play with three tournaments away from home. MSU will travel to Denton, Texas, for five games in the Mean Green Classic (Feb. 17-19) before heading to Memphis, Tenn. for another five-game tournament (Feb. 24-26). The Bears will then participate in the Missouri Breast Cancer Awareness Tournament hosted by UMKC before beginning the home slate.
Missouri State will host Big 12 opponent Iowa State in a three-game weekend series on March 10 and 11 to open 2012 play at Killian Stadium. A quick trip to Conway, Ark. awaits before the Bears jump into conference play by hosting Illinois State (March 16-17). Another Big 12 opponent, Kansas, will play a doubleheader at Killian (March 20) before MSU heads out on a nine-game road trip.
The Bears will return to Killian to kick off a nine-game home stand with a weekend series against Bradley on April 6. Missouri State will play host to Tulsa looking to avenge a pair of defeats to the Golden Hurricane in last spring's NCAA Tournament. Three games against Southern Illinois and a twin bill against Wichita State cap off the home stand.
At trip to Cedar Falls for a three-game set against UNI continues conference play for the Bears. A single game in Wichita against the Shockers ends the brief road trip.
Missouri State will play Indiana State in a three-game series on April 28-29 will wrap up the conference home slate. On Wednesday, May 2, Arkansas will be the opponent for the Bears home finale of the season. MSU will end the regular season on the road with three conference games at Creighton.
The Bears will travel to Carbondale, Ill., for the State Farm MVC Tournament May 10 through May 12. Last season, Missouri State won the MVC Tournament title to advance to the sixth NCAA Tournament in team history.
Missouri State will return 13 letterwinners and three All-MVC selections from last year's team which finished 30-25. The Bears advanced to their sixth NCAA Tournament where they beat Iona to go 1-2 in the Norman Regional.
