Softball Bears Drop Pair to Conclude Fall Season
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Missouri State softball team wrapped up its 2010 fall campaign Saturday (Oct. 9) at Killian Softball Stadium, dropping a 7-2 contest to Central Arkansas and a 3-1 decision to Tulsa. UCA scored all seven of its runs with two outs, while Tulsa pitching held the Bears to just one hit through the first five innings to build an insurmountable advantage.
In game one, UCA struck for three runs in third inning via five consecutive base hits after MSU starter Natalie Rose fanned the first two batters of the inning. Aided by a Missouri State fielding miscue, the Bears added a run in the fifth off Rose, then put the game out of reach with a three-run sixth against freshman reliver Jourdan Esquenazi.
Missouri State scored its only two runs of the game in the bottom of the sixth, capitalizing on two-out, RBI-singles by Jenna Schwark and Ashley Knehans.
The nightcap saw MSU engage Tulsa in a scoreless duel for three innings, as both teams struggled to generate any offense. The Golden Hurricane broke the scoring seal in the top of the fourth, using a pair of singles and a Rose error to seize a 1-0 advantage.
TU tacked on single tallies in the sixth and seventh innings before sophomore Stevie Pierce clubbed her second long ball of the fall season to lead-off the MSU seventh for the Bears only score of the contest.
Schwark led the Missouri State offense, going 2-for-6 on the day with an RBI and run scored. The Bears managed just four hits off Golden Hurricane pitching and only 10 hits on the afternoon in falling to 2-2 on the fall season.
