Softball Bears Pound Jefferson for Third Win of Fall Season
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Missouri State softball team used a six-run third inning to best Jefferson College, 11-2, Saturday (Sept. 19) at MSU Softball Field for its third victory of the fall season. Freshman Stevie Pierce belted a three-run home run to highlight the decisive frame that saw the Bears record six straight hits to break open a 2-1 game.
After RBI-hits by Ashley Knehans and Taylor Farley started the scoring in the third, Pierce drove a 3-0 pitch over the center field wall to stake the Bears to a 7-1 lead.
That margin would be more than enough for senior pitcher Lauren Supak, who limited the Lady Vikings to just two runs (one earned) on two hits in six innings of work to earn her second win in as many starts this fall.
Knehans paced the Bears' offense by going 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored to go along with her run-scoring triple in the key third-inning rally. Christa Gammon and Delayna Gary also posted multi-hit games, finishing with a pair of hits apiece.
The Bears first game of the afternoon versus Evangel was postponed due to rain and will be made up on Friday, Oct. 2, at 6 p.m., at MSU Softball Field.
Next, Missouri State will host Central Missouri (11 a.m.) and Crowder College (3 p.m.) Saturday (Sept. 26) at MSU Softball Field.
