Softball Bears Set to Open Fall Campaign This Weekend
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Missouri State softball team will get its 2010 fall season underway this weekend by welcoming back some familiar faces for the annual MSU Alumni Game, which will take place at 1 p.m., Saturday (Sept. 11) at Killian Stadium. The Bears will square off against each other Sunday (Sept. 12) afternoon at noon in the Maroon and White Game to complete the first of four home weekends that will comprise the fall slate.
The Bears will play their all of their fall contests at Killian for the first time ever. Admission to all Missouri State games in the fall will be free and open to the public.
The Bears’ first official contests of the fall season will take place on Saturday, Sept. 25, when they host Evangel (noon) and Crowder College (4 p.m.) at Killian.
On Oct. 2, Missouri State will take on Drury in a single contest at noon. Prior to their game with the Panthers, the Bears will also host a youth clinic at 9 a.m. for girls in grades three through eight as part of the Bee Payne Stewart Strut Series Sports Clinics.
To conclude the fall season, the Bears will welcome two Division I programs to Killian on Oct. 9. MSU will face off against Central Arkansas at 1 p.m., then wrap up the campaign with a 5 p.m. contest against Tulsa.
Entering her 23rd season at the helm of the Missouri State softball program, head coach Holly Hesse returns nine starters-including All-Missouri Valley Conference performers Caitlin Chapin, Christa Gammon and Jenna Schwark-from last year’s 21-32 squad that finished third at the MVC Championship last May.
