Softball Bears Set to Open Fall Campaign
Sept. 7, 2011
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Missouri State softball team will get its 2011 fall season underway Thursday (Sept. 8) evening when it hosts Labette Community College at Killian Stadium. For the second consecutive year, the Bears will play their all of their fall home contests at Killian, where admission to all games will be free and open to the public.
Missouri State's 5 p.m., contest with Labette kicks off a busy opening weekend that will also see the Bears welcome back some familiar faces for the annual MSU Alumni Game, which will take place at 1 p.m., Saturday (Sept. 10) at Killian. The Bears will square off against each other Sunday (Sept. 11) afternoon at 1 p.m., in their annual intrasquad Maroon and White Game to complete the first of four weekends that will comprise the fall slate.
After a week off, the Bears return to action Saturday, Sept. 24, when they take on Crowder College (noon) and Evangel (4 p.m.) to wrap up the home portion of the fall schedule at Killian.
To conclude the fall season, the Bears will hit the road for a quartet of games against Division I opponents. MSU travels to Cape Girardeau, Mo., on Oct. 1, facing off against Southeast Missouri State (1:30 p.m.) and Saint Louis (3:30 p.m.), then closes out the campaign Oct. 8, in Tulsa, Okla., against Central Arkansas (1 p.m.) and host Tulsa (3 p.m.).
Entering her 24th season at the helm of the Missouri State softball program, head coach Holly Hesse returns 13 letterwinners--including All-Missouri Valley Conference performers Caitlin Chapin, Kirstin Cutter and Natalie Rose--from last year's 30-25 squad that captured the school's sixth MVC Softball Championship and posted the program's first NCAA Tournament victory in 13 years in May.
