Softball Doubleheader at Wichita State Rescheduled for Next Wednesday

April 16, 2013

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The forecast for heavy rain and severe storms in the Wichita, Kan., area for Wednesday has forced the postponement of the Missouri State softball team's (15-24, 6-8) doubleheader against the Shockers (15-22, 6-7) to next week Wednesday, April 24. The Bears' single game at home, originally scheduled for the 24th, may be rescheduled for a later date.

The Valley rescheduling policy states that the team with two scheduled home games receives priority when makeup dates are considered. Therefore, MSU will play at 4:00 and at 6:00 p.m. next Wednesday in Wichita.

MSU's Ashley Brentz registered a hit in each game at Southern Illinois last weekend. She has now hit safely in 18 of the Bears' last 21 games, raising her average by more than 100 points during that stretch.

Senior Stevie Pierce continues to build upon her career year. She drove in her 30th run of the season on Saturday, more than doubling her best previous season. She leads the team in home runs with seven, a career high, and has set career bests in runs (19), hits (31), doubles (9), total bases (30) and stolen bases (3). She drew career walk number 79 at Illinois State on April 6, the third-most in school history.

Missouri State will next play at home on Saturday, April 20 against Evansville to begin a three-game weekend series versus the Purple Aces. Special events surrounding the noon doubleheader on the 20th include Barb Gaines' jersey retirement and a celebration of coach Hesse's 25 years at Missouri State. Sunday's single game will be telecast on Mediacom 22 on a tape delay basis. Visit for broadcast times.
