Softball's Weekend Series Versus Drake Relocated to Des Moines
March 28, 2013
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Recent rain and melting snow and the forecast of more precipitation have rendered the Killian Stadium surface unplayable resulting in this weekend's MVC series against league-leading Drake to be moved to Des Moines, Iowa. The softball Bears (12-15, 3-2) will now travel to Iowa for a doubleheader at 2:00 p.m. Friday and a single game on Saturday at noon against the Bulldogs (18-10, 4-0) at Ron Buel Field. Missouri State will be designated the home team for all three games.
The Bears enter the weekend after taking the series at Indiana State last weekend with a doubleheader sweep on Saturday. MSU tied a season-high with 13 hits in game two, raising the team average to a league-best .308.
Senior Stevie Pierce continues to build upon a phenomenal season. She cranked home run number seven on the season, tying for the third-best single season total in school history. She also drew three walks against the Sycamores, giving her 77 for her career, the fourth-best total in program history. At the halfway point of the season, Pierce has already set career highs in home runs (7), runs scored (18), runs batted in (28), total bases (50) and stolen bases (3).
Catcher Stacia Boeckstiegel leads the team with a .382 average. She has put together an impressive all-around season at the plate and in the field, mentoring a young pitching staff.
Junior second baseman Ashley Brentz has come on strong at the midpoint of the year. She enters the weekend with a team-best seven game hitting streak, raising her average to .277 for the season.
The Bears have gotten off to a fast start in recent games, scoring at least once in seven of the last eight games. The 143 runs scored on the season is the most in the Valley and nearly matches the season total for all of last season.
Following this weekend's games, the Bears will return to Killian Stadium against No. 7 Missouri in a doubleheader on April 3 at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday's twin bill versus the Tigers has been designated Faculty and Staff Appreciation night. All Missouri State faculty and staff will receive FREE admission by presenting a valid BearPass ID at the ticket window at Killian Stadium on game day.
