Porche Named MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week
Missouri State senior softball pitcher Melissa Porche has been named the Prairie Farms Missouri Valey Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced today.
Porche went 3-0, allowing 11 hits in 21 innings of work to help the Bears pick up a non-conference road win over No. 11 Oklahoma and take two of three MVC games from Illinois State this past week. The Buena Park, Calif., native recorded 26 strikeouts and allowed opponents a mere .157 batting average in three complete games. Porche was honored as MVC Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week, sharing the honor with Wichita State’s Ashley Bright.
Porche pitched the Bears to a 3-2 decision over Oklahoma Wednesday (March 19) in Norman, limiting the Sooners to four hits and one earned run. She struck out 14 batters and allowed just ﬁve hits in MSU’s 3-2 victory over Illinois State Friday (March 21) and completed the weekend series against ISU with a dominating shutout Saturday (March 22), giving up just two hits, while striking out 11 Redbirds in a 6-0 MSU win. A psychology major, Porche has a 3.17 GPA.
