SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Freshman right-hander Erin Struemph has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced on Monday (March 24). The native of St. Thomas, Mo., also earned the honor exactly one month ago on February 24.

Struemph tossed her league-leading third complete game shutout of the season as part of another stellar week of performances. On the week, she had a win, a save, 12 strikeouts and a 0.00 earned run average while allowing just three infield hits in 11.2 innings of work.

She began the week in relief on Tuesday against Northern Colorado with three no-hit innings, recording three strikeouts and stranding an inherited runner. The save was her third of the season, tying her for 10th in the nation in the category.

On Wednesday, she took a no-hitter into the bottom of the sixth inning at UMKC before a two-out bunt single broke her streak of 8.2 innings without allowing a hit to begin the week. Struemph gave up just two infield singles in the complete game shutout victory and struck out nine Kangaroos. In Thursday's series finale against Bradley, again Struemph was solid allowing just an infield single in 1.2 innings of relief to keep the Bears within a run.

On the year, Struemph has a 1.88 ERA and 79 strikeouts, both are second-best in the MVC. She leads the Valley by holding opposing batters to a .213 average.

Missouri State returns to Killian Stadium for four games beginning on Wednesday (March 26) at 5:00 p.m. versus Tulsa. The Bears will also host Southern Illinois for a league series on Saturday, March 29 and Sunday, March 30 with games starting at noon both days.
