Missouri State junior Stevie Pierce has been named this week's Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday. Pierce, a first baseman for the Bears, had a break-out weekend as she hit .500 at the Missouri Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament in Kansas City, Mo.

Pierce went 5-for-10 while starting all four games of the weekend. On Sunday, she drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh as the Bears rallied from a two-run deficit in their final at bat against Southeast Missouri State. In the second game of the day, she recorded two of the Bears' five hits against No. 13 Missouri, including a double down the right field line. She was named to the all-tournament team for her performance at the Missouri Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament.

Her weekend performance raised her season batting average by 117 points. Her batting average and on-base percentage for the season are second on the team, trailing only Ashley Brentz in both categories.

The Bears will open the home slate with a three-game series against Iowa State at Killian Stadium this weekend. The home opener will be a double header on Saturday, March 10 with the series finale scheduled for Sunday, March 11. Both days, games will begin at 12:00 p.m.
