Special Events Planned for Killian Softball Stadium Dedication
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Missouri State University will open its new softball facility, Killian Softball Stadium, the weekend of March 6-8, when it hosts the All-Missouri Classic benefitting the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks. A number of special events have been planned as part of the stadium’s official dedication, which will take place prior to the Bears’ game against UMKC Saturday, March 7 at 5 p.m.
Admission to all tournament games will be a voluntary donation, with all proceeds going to the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks.
All softball alumni are invited to be a part of the home-opening celebration, starting with tours of the MSU softball locker room at Hammons Student Center at 12:30 p.m., and JQH Arena and the Missouri State Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame at 1:00 p.m. An alumni social will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Prime Overtime Club in JQH Arena following the tours.
The dedication ceremony, which will include former players from each of Missouri State’s 40 varsity softball teams, will commence at 4:15 p.m., followed by the Bears’ contest against UMKC.
With the completion of a $2.7 million renovation project at Killian Sports Complex, the dream of a new state-of-the-art home facility will become a reality for the Missouri State softball program in 2009.
Operated by the Springfield-Greene County Park Board, Killian Softball Stadium will feature seating for up to 1,200 spectators, making the East Springfield venue an attractive and viable candidate to host future NCAA regional competitions.
Designed by Springfield firm Pellham Phillips Architects Engineers, the Killian Stadium project is part of a department-wide effort to upgrade the city’s recreational facilities. The redesigned Killian complex will feature surface improvements, upgraded lighting, coaches’ offices, a training room and locker facilities. The new and improved facility will serve not only the Bears, but also house the Park Board’s softball leagues and play host to numerous national tournaments in the Queen City.
Prior to dedication weekend, Missouri State softball will host a sneak preview of Killian Softball Stadium Wednesday, March 4. The Bears will conduct an open practice, followed by an autograph signing session beginning at 6:30 p.m. Fans will also have the opportunity to tour the stadium grounds, and refreshments will be served.
Season and single-game tickets for the 2009 season are on sale now through Missouri State Tix. The Bears’ 24-game season ticket package can be purchased for $48, or single-game tickets will be sold for $5 through both the Missouri State and Killian box offices.
