Schwark Named to Lowe's Senior CLASS Award Watch List



SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri State senior utility Jenna Schwark was one of 30 NCAA softball student-athletes who excel both on and off the field selected Wednesday as candidates for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award.

Last year, Schwark led Missouri State and ranked fourth in the Missouri Valley Conference in overall batting (.358) and rated among the league's top 10 individuals in hits (57), total bases (85) and on-base percentage (.440). The Broken Arrow, Okla., product also led the Bears in RBIs (30), walks (19) and multi-hit games (15), while finishing second on the squad in runs scored (30) and third in home runs (7). Additionally, Schwark was the toughest Valley player to strike-out in 2010, fanning just one time for every 22.7 at-bats in conference play.

Schwark saved her best for last in 2010, leading the Bears' charge through the MVC Softball Championship by hitting .368 with a pair of homers and seven RBIs to earn her second straight All-MVC Tournament nod.

Schwark, an accounting major, was honored for her work in the classroom as well, earning First-Team Academic All-District VII recognition from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) last spring. Additionally, Schwark was one of 30 Missouri State student-athletes to receive the Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award from the Valley in 2009.

To be eligible for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.


The 2011 candidate class includes 21 student-athletes with cumulative grade point averages of better than a 3.0. Thirteen are from teams ranked in the Softball preseason top 25 poll, and seven players competed in the NCAA Women’s College World Series® last season.


Lowe’s, an official Corporate Partner of the NCAA, will announce the winner April 3 at the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City.
