At Missouri State:Melissa Porche will be the ace of the pitching staff as a junior after two impressive seasons on the mound to start her career.
2006: Porche started 20 games on the mound, picking up 16 complete games and four shutouts. She also entered 16 games in relief, earning five wins and earning a NCAA-best seven saves. For the season, Porche recorded a 17-8 record with a 2.17 earned-run average in 161.1 innings pitched. Porche's 17 wins were sixth-best in the MVC, her 141 stikeouts were seventh-best, her 2.18 ERA was eighth-best, and she held opposing batters to a .191 batting average, which ranked third in the conference. She led the league in saves, was tied for second with 15 games finished, and was third with 16 games entered in relief. For her accomplishments, Porche was named to the All-MVC Second Team and was also voted to the Scholar-Athlete Team as an honorable mention. Porche was also named to the MVC All-Tournament Team after pitching a complete game shutout against regular season champion Illinois State in the semifinals. Porche also excelled at the plate, where she hit .242 with 30 hits, three doubles, three homers, and 18 RBIs from the designated hitter spot in 42 games. On April 3, Porche was named the MVC Pitcher of the Week for her no-hit performance against Drake (4/1), in a game in which she also hit a grand slam at the plate.
2005: Porche earned an 8-6 record in her rookie season, leading the Bears with four saves, which tied for the Valley lead and ranked 19th nationally. Porche had a 3.03 ERA, including a 1.95 ERA in MVC play. Porche also held opponents to a .229 batting average in 114.2 innings of work, with 103 strikeouts.
Background: Porche was a four-year starter at Oxford College Prep Academy in Cypress, Calif. As a senior, Porche went 19-6 and recorded one save with a stellar 0.15 ERA from the mound. Porche has already had her jersey retired at Oxford Academy after being named a four-year MVP, and a two-year Academy League MVP. From the plate, Porche recorded a stellar .459 batting average and knocked in 33 RBIs and four home runs on 45 hits. She helped lead her team to a 21-6 overall record and a conference title with a 9-1 league record. During her junior season she helped the Patriots to a 20-2 record while batting .494, with 39 hits in 79 at bats. During her junior season she had a school record high 19 wins with a .49 ERA.
Personal: Melissa Jacqueline Porche is the daughter of Chris and Julie Porche. She was born September 2, 1986, in Bellflower, Calif. She is majoring in psychology with a minor in biomedical sciences.
