Pierce's patience at the plate and solid leather will be vital to the Bears' success.
Pierce was one of four Bears to start all 51 games in 2012 ... named MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week on March 7 ... she tied for the team-lead with 29 bases on balls, tied for fourth on the all-time single season list ... launched a pair of home runs on the season ... she was successful on both steal attempts, one of just three Bears to not get caught stealing ... doubled her hit total from 2011 ... one of two Bears with more walks than strikeouts on the season ... drew four walks in the game at Creighton (May 5), the second-straight season with a four-walk game ... had two games in which she went 2-for-2 with a walk (March 2 vs. Saint Louis; March 27 vs. Kansas) ... put up a solid .995 fielding percentage after seeing the second-most chances (398) and making the second-most putouts (371) in the Valley.
Pierce played in just 30 games, getting 20 starts as she missed more than a month due to a hand injury ... had a career day with a 2-for-2, two walk performance that included a two-run homer and four RBIs in the Bears' MVC Tournament Championship game win over Drake on May 14 ... was the only Bear to register a four RBI game in 2011 ... led the Bears in home runs with three ... hustled out her first career triple in the second game of a twinbill at Wichita State on April 20 ... had a team season-best four bases on balls in the March 9 game at North Texas ... was flawless in the field converting all 14 chances without an error.
Pierce made 13 starts and saw action in 41 games overall as a freshman ... four of her eight hits on the year went for extra bases, including three home runs ... drove in 10 runs in just 70 plate appearances to rank sixth on the club ... batted .333 with the bases loaded and .400 as a lead-off hitter ... also came through with runners on third and less than two out, hitting a whopping .571 ... posted three multi-RBI games to rank fifth on the team ... registered a three-game hit streak, Feb. 13-19 ... belted her first collegiate home run March 6 vs. SEMO--a fifth-inning grand slam that proved to be the difference in the Bears' 7-3 win that snapped their school-record 12-game losing streak ... came off the bench to hit a pinch-homer April 17 at Drake ... delivered a back-breaking two-run homer to help seal the Bears' 6-1, elimination-game victory over Illinois State in the MVC Championship (May 14).
Pierce was a four-year starter at Plano (Texas) Senior High, where she earned three all-district nods ... hit .485 with three homers and broke her own school record with a .530 on-base percentage in leading the Wildcats to a district championship as a junior ... was named an NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete in 2008 ... earned all-district recognition as a pitcher in 2007, going 12-2 with a 2.22 ERA as a sophomore ... named District 8-5A Freshman of the Year after hitting .351 and posting an 11-5 record and 1.63 ERA in 2006 ... played travel ball for the Texas Glory Gold, a team that featured 13 players committed to play at Division I institutions ... graduated with honors from Plano Senior High.
