Jones returns as the most experienced arm in the circle while providing pop at the plate and depth in the outfield.
Jones carried the Bears in 2013, tossing 231.2 innings, the sixth-most innings in a single season in MSU history and second-most by an MVC pitcher ... improved her ERA and opponent's batting average while continuing to strikeout more hitters than walks given up ... tied for fourth among Valley hurlers with 15 wins ... induced a league-leading 338 ground ball outs ... had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage on 75 chances ... very productive in just six plate appearances, driving in four runs on four at-bats, a sacrifice fly and a hit-by-pitch ... picked up her first win of the year with a complete game outing against Butler (Feb. 10) and followed that up with a three-hit shutout victory over Boise State (Feb. 15) ... tossed her second complete-game shutout of the season in an 8-0 win at Chattanooga (Feb. 24) ... racked up a season-high tying six strikeouts in a four-hit complete game shutout to open a three-game set at Bradley (May 4) ... selected as the MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week after a 2-0 weekend at Bradley where she allowed just one run in 14.1 innings ... named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete honorable mention team following the season.
Jones appeared in 43 games, pitching in 25, in her first season with Missouri State ... made an immediate impact with a two-RBI single in her first at-bat to bust open the Bears' season-opening win against Sam Houston State (February 17) ... blasted both of her home runs on the season against Drake (April 1 in Des Moines and May 10 in MVC Tournament) ... racked up six RBI in a three-game stretch from March 16-22 ... hit two doubles against Illinois State (March 16), the only Bear with a two-double game in 2012 ... led the team with a .667 batting average with the bases loaded ... compiled eight multi-hit games, third-most on the team ... earned wins in back-to-back outings at the Blues City Classic, beating SEMO and Memphis (February 25-26) to earn all-tournament honors ... had the fewest walks allowed (24) by any Valley pitcher and ranked third in fewest walks per game (1.63) in the MVC ... struck out a career-best five hitters at Eastern Illinois (March 22) ... tossed complete game victories against SEMO (February 25), Bradley (April 6) and Southern Illinois (April 14).
Jones guided her El Reno High School club to a regional title and fifth-place finish at the Oklahoma Class 5A state tournament in 2010 ... earned Oklahoma Softball Coaches Association All-Region I honors after compiling a 16-9 record with a 1.02 earned run average and 124 strikeouts against just 19 walks in 137 innings pitched ... batted .364 as a senior and picked up all-conference recognition for the fourth straight year ... played summer ball for the Oklahoma Athletics Gold ... helped lead the Indians to a state runner-up finish as a freshman and a third-place finish her sophomore year.
Chelsea Rhiannon Jones is the daughter of Tonya and Jim Jones ... born August 12, 1993, in Dallas, Texas ... has two brothers, Seth and Levi, and one sister, Sierra ... will major in history education and religion at MSU.
