Van Es will be effective on the mound, if healthy, and provide great depth on the pitching staff.
Van Es pitched in 17 games and was handed the starting assignment five times ... earned her first career save in her first outing of the season against ULM (Feb. 6) pitching 1.1 innings with a strikeout ... started the next day versus SIU Edwardsville (Feb. 7) and pitched 5.0 solid innings with just two earned runs against ... earned the win with four innings of three-hit ball against Eastern Michigan (Feb. 14) ... struck out a season-high five batters in 5.2 innings in a game two start at McNeese State (Feb. 20) ... threw a hitless inning of relief against Evansville (April 4) that included two strikeouts ... did not allow a hit against in three innings of relief at Wichita State (April 15).
Van Es made 26 appearances and was handed the ball to start on 12 occasions ... tossed five complete games and finished with a 6-6 mark and 4.82 earned run average ... pitched her first complete game of the season against South Dakota State (Feb. 15), a five-hitter with just a single run allowed ... hurled another complete game in her next outing, a four-hit, five-strikeout performance in a shutout win over Alabama A&M (Feb. 21) ... tied her season high with five strikeouts against Saint Louis (March 1) ... did not allow a walk over the course of four-consecutive outings from March 15 through March 26 over 12.1 innings pitched ... fired a two-hitter in a complete game victory at UMKC (March 19) to complete a doubleheader sweep on the road ... shut out Drake on just four hits while striking out three in a 4-0 win (April 5) ... pitched three scoreless innings of relief with a strikeout against Illinois State (April 27).
Van Es made 16 appearances in the circle and received 12 starts ... led the staff with the lowest opponent batting average with two outs (.261), the fewest walks per game (2.19) and the best strikeout-to-walk ratio (1.3) ... fanned 28 batters on the season including at least one punchout in 13 of her 16 outings ... struck out her first career batter to end the third inning, stranding a runner on base, at Kennesaw State (Feb. 8) ... racked up a season-high four strikeouts in a complete game outing against Lipscomb (Feb. 22) ... gave up just four bases on balls in 17.1 innings pitched in MVC play and did not allow a free pass over the final 10.2 conference innings tossed over a three-outing span ... went 3-0 in conference and ended the season 4-2 in her last six decisions.
Van Es was a standout pitcher for Pottsville High for four seasons ... led her team to the state title game as a senior ... was an all-state and all-conference selection while going 23-5 with a 0.78 ERA, a perfect game and five no-hitters her senior campaign ... as a junior, she hurled an 18 strikeout perfect game, two no-hitters and three one-hitters while averaging 13 strikeouts for the season ... was named to the all-state and all-conference teams in leading her team to the semifinals of the state tournament ... could also hit, earning the 2011 Outstanding Hitter Award and was named the top junior by the conference coaches ... as a sophomore, she earned all-conference accolades after taking the most RBI’s award for the second-straight season ... won the golden glove award after leading her team to the state semifinals ... in 2009, she earned all-conference honors and took home the silver bat award ... also played basketball at Pottsville High.
