Struemph emerged as one of the top up-and-coming young pitchers in the MVC, who is capable of dominating in the circle both as a starter and a reliever.
Struemph pitched in 42 games and started 22 times ... went 13-12 with a 3.35 ERA, 155 strikeouts and three saves ... her 155 strikeouts were the most by an MSU freshman since Monica Johnson had 172 in 1987 ... recorded at least one strikeout in 35 of 42 appearances ... struck out one Yellow Jacket in just 0.2 innings pitched in her debut (Feb. 8), one of three times during the season to record a strikeout with just 0.2 IP ... tossed her first career complete game with nine strikeouts against Central Michigan (Feb. 14) ... earned MVC Newcomer of the Week on February 24 after going 2-0 with a save and giving up just a single earned run over 15.2 IP at the Blues City Classic, where she was named to the all-tournament team ... racked up 10 strikeouts at Oklahoma State in a five-hit complete game win (March 9) ... was named MVC Newcomer of the Week again on March 24 after pitching 11.2 innings with 12 strikeouts, a win, a save and just three infield hits against ... struck out 11 batters at UNI (April 19), the highest single game total by any Valley pitcher on the year ... ended the regular season as the only MVC hurler with more strikeouts (147) than hits allowed (146) ... tossed a complete game in the opening round of the MVC Tournament, striking out six Panthers as MSU beat UNI to advance (May 8) ... was named to the MVC All-Tournament Team after recording eight strikeouts in 10 IP over two postseason outings.
Struemph was a four-year standout hurler at Saint Elizabeth High ... a back-to-back first-team all-state selection, she completed her career with a 26-3 record, 0.67 ERA, 967 strikeouts in 565 innings pitched and three-consecutive conference titles ... as a senior, Struemph earned conference and district MVP honors along with first-team all-region and all-state accolades for the state quarterfinalists ... led the Hornets to the 2011 Class 1 State Title while picking up all-state and all-region first team selections and conference and district MVP honors in her junior campaign ... her sophomore year, she added first-team all-district and all-region, second team all-state and conference MVP accolades to her resume ... was a first-team all-conference, all-district and all-region honoree as a freshman ... in 2009, she led her Club Elite Classics 14B team to the ASA Northern National Championship and received the Outstanding Pitcher Award in 2010 at the USSSA Fastpitch World Series ... was also a standout basketball player at Saint Elizabeth her freshman and sophomore seasons.
Erin Nicole Struemph is the daughter of Karen and Paul Struemph ... born October 18, 1994, in Jefferson City, Mo. ... has three sisters, Becky, Renee and Dana ... her sister, Renee, also attended MSU ... is majoring in exercise and movement science at Missouri State.
