Chapin gives the Bears another middle-of-the-lineup power threat that will be relied upon to drive in runs.
Chapin's power stroke returned in 2012 as she slammed a team-high four home runs ... three of her four home runs came against conference opponents ... hit a home run in each half of the doubleheader at Evansville (March 24) ... had six multi-hit games, including two of the first three games of the season ... her six doubles were third on the team ... she tied for third on the squad with six steals ... reached base 13 times to lead off an inning, second-best on the team ... had a season-best four-game hit streak from April 1-6 ... started a career-high 44 games ... improved at the plate by dropping her strikeout total to 27, the lowest of her career.
Despite being sidelined with a concussion for two weeks in April, Chapin appeared in 40 games and made 31 starts ... her 12 RBIs were tied for third-best on the team ... she was the only Bear to have two three-RBI games in 2011 (March 27 at Indiana State, April 12 vs. UMKC) ... her seven total bases against Indiana State on March 27 tied for the team high for the season ... started four games behind the plate, one game at first base and 26 as the DP.
Chapin appeared in 49 games, making 39 starts in all, as a freshman ... shared team lead with eight home runs, good enough for third all-time in a single season at MSU ... posted eight multi-RBI games to lead the Bears ... drove in 27 runs to rank second on the squad and third on the Bears' freshman RBI list ... batted .359 and slugged a team-best .641 with five homers in MVC play ... hit .404 and slugged .707--both team highs--in 17 road games ... drove in a season-high four runs with a 2-for-3 day at the plate in the Bears' 17-2 win over IUPUI (March 17) ... went 7-for-10 in the Bears' three-game series at Evansville (March 26-27) with six runs batted-in to launch a team-high seven-game hitting streak, over which she went 11-for-24 (.458) with four home runs and 11 RBIs ... hit key home runs in each of the Bears' first two games of their series with Creighton (April 2), then drove in three runs in the third game to help clinch MSU's three-game sweep of the three-time defending MVC champions ... batted .500 and drew six walks in MSU's three games against Bradley (April 10-11).
Chapin completed her career at Ozark (Mo.) High School as one of the area's most decorated players ... batted .450 with 27 home runs for her career and led the Lady Tigers to three district titles ... in 2007, she clubbed 11 home runs, which tied for the fourth-highest single-season total in Missouri high school softball history, en route to leading Ozark to a fourth-place Class 4 finish ... a four-time All-Ozarks selection, Chapin finished her prep career among the state of Missouri's all-time leaders in hits (2nd), doubles (2nd), total bases (2nd), home runs (3rd), runs scored (4th), RBIs (6th) and slugging percentage (7th).
