Team MVP Awarded to Fouch at Women's Soccer Year-End Banquet
Dec. 12, 2013
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Junior defender Kelsey Fouch took home team MVP honors at the women's soccer year-end team banquet on Saturday (Dec. 7). The award, voted on by members of the 2013 team, adds yet another piece of hardware to Fouch's collection after she was named Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year in November.
"I was happy with the effort the team put forth this season and the way the seniors handled themselves," said head coach Rob Brewer. "We always hope our seniors are leaving as better people and I think this group is doing that. It was a challenging season, but we were right there with 13 one-goal or draw decisions and having our season come down to the seventh penalty kick. The team prepared the right way and battled all season. We have a lot of good players coming back and we will get back to work preparing for next season in the spring."
The team recognized each of its award winners from the season including all-conference selections Fouch and Molly Brewer. Academic All-MVC picks Fouch, Brewer, Cassie Le and Alix Opfer received their certificates as did Jessica Perry, who was MVC Goalkeeper of the Week on October 15. Le received her Capitol One Academic All-District award, Molly Huber got her MVC All-Tournament team certificate and Fouch was acknowledged for her MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week award won on October 2.
In addition to award winner recognition, the team also saluted its senior class one final time. Seniors Adrianne Kalogerou, Michelle Mayne-Nicholls, Jessica Roberts, Shelby Stewart and Lauren Wendt each received a framed, team-issued career profile and were honored with a speech by an underclassman.
