Nia Williams Named to NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region Third Team
Dec. 4, 2012
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Missouri State women's soccer senior Nia Williams earned National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Great Lakes Region third team honors, the organization announced this week. It is the fourth post-season award for Williams this year.
This season's MVC Defensive Player of the Year, Williams is the lone Bear to pick up all-region honors this season and makes it four consecutive seasons that an MSU player has landed on the All-Great Lakes squad. Williams picked up her second-straight All-MVC first team award last month and finished her career with 14 assists, tied for second in program history.
During her career at Missouri State, Williams started all 69 matches that she appeared in. She was a three-time MVC Defensive Player of the Week honoree (Sept. 7, 2010; Aug. 21, 2012; Oct. 2, 2012). A defensive leader throughout her career, Williams helped a Bears' defense that allowed just two home goals in nine matches this season.
A four-year all-conference selection, Williams was named to the MVC All-Tournament team in 2010 and the MVC All-Freshman team in 2009. She scored her first career goal this season, the game-winner against Western Illinois on September 14.
Off the field, Williams has racked up a number of academic honors as well. She earned her third-straight Academic All-MVC award this season after being named an MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week in October. In 2011, she earned CoSIDA Academic All-District accolades.
