Women's Soccer Lands Four on Academic All-MVC Teams

Nov. 19, 2013

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Four Missouri State women's soccer players received Academic All-MVC team accolades, the league office announced Tuesday (November 19). Sophomores Molly Brewer and Cassie Le were first team selections while fellow sophomore Alix Opfer and junior Kelsey Fouch received honorable mention nods.

Brewer picks up her first academic honor from the league after earning All-MVC second team honors earlier in the month. An MVC All-Freshman team selection last year, Brewer has been the recipient of the MVC Commissioner's Excellence Award and named to the Missouri State Athletics Director's Honor Roll. This season, she tied for the team lead with four goals scored, all coming during conference play. She also led the team in shots on goal with 16. Brewer, a Springfield native, holds a 4.00 grade point average and is undecided upon a major.

Le snags her second academic honor of the month after being named to the Capital One Academic All-District VI first team. She has also received the MVC Commissioner's Excellence Award and been named to the Missouri State Athletics Director's Honor Roll. Le started all 19 matches on the Bears' backline this season and helped MSU keep five clean sheets on the year. A native of White Bear Lake, Minn., Le has a cumulative 3.96 GPA as a biology major.

This year's MVC Defensive Player of the Year and an All-MVC first team selection, Fouch earns her second straight Academic All-MVC honorable mention honor. She earned the league's Scholar-Athlete of the Week award on October 2 after leading the Bears' defense in a win over UNI to open league play. An MVC All-Freshman and All-MVC honorable mention team member, Fouch is a two-time recipient of the MVC Commissioner's Excellence Award. During her tenure with the Bears, Fouch has started and played in 54 of 56 matches in the last three seasons. Holding a 3.65 GPA in exercise and movement science, Fouch hails from St. Charles, Mo.

Opfer takes home her first league academic laurel with the honorable mention nod. An MVC Commissioner's Excellence Award winner and Missouri State Athletics Director's Honor Roll designee, Opfer was named to the MVC All-Freshman team last year. She was the only MSU player to be on the pitch for every minute of the 2013 season and played a vital center-back role leading the Bears to five shutouts on the year. A Springfield native, Opfer is undecided on a major and has a 3.90 cumulative GPA.

With this year's four selections, head coach Rob Brewer has now accumulated 68 Academic All-MVC team honorees under his guidance of the program.
