ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The awards continue to stream in for the Missouri State women's soccer players as five members of the 2012 team received Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete team recognition, the league office announced on Monday. Seniors Michelle Sommer, Chelsea Voet and Nia Williams were named to the first team while fellow senior Grace Cross and sophomore Kelsey Fouch picked up honorable mention accolades.

Williams, who holds a 3.78 GPA in elementary education, was also a member of the MVC Scholar-Athlete first team in 2011 and an honorable mentions selection in 2010. This season's MVC Defensive Player of the Year and an All-MVC first team member, Williams completed her career with 14 assists, tied for second in program history. On August 22, 2012, she picked up her first MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week award following her second of three career MVC Defensive Player of the Week honors. A four-year all-conference award winner, Wiliams also earned 2010 MVC All-Tournament team and 2009 MVC All-Freshman team honors during her career. A leader on the Bears' backline that allowed just two goals at home this season, she scored her first career goal, the game-winner, against Western Illinois this season.

Sommer, a cell and molecular biology major with a 3.93 GPA, picks up her second post-season academic honor after being named to the Capital One Academic All-District VI first team earlier this month. An All-MVC first teamer this year, Sommer scored four goals in 2012, second on the team and ninth in the league. She also led the Bears in shots taken for the second-straight season. Her 39 shots this season ranked sixth in the Valley and moved her career total to 137 shots, fourth-most in program history. An All-MVC second teamer and MVC Scholar-Athlete first teamer and MVC Offensive Player of the Week in 2011, she earns her third-consecutive league scholar award this year.

Voet, with a 3.97 GPA in exercise and movement science, also earns her second academic honor of the month after her Capital One Academic All-District VI first team honor. An All-MVC honorable mention selection this season, she tied for the league lead during the regular season with seven shutouts. Voet picked up MVC Goalkeeper of the Week and MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week in October. She was also selected as Missouri State fall recipient of the 2012 MVC Leadership and Service Award.

Cross, an administrative management major with a 3.41 GPA, snags her second-career MVC Scholar-Athlete honorable mention honor (2010). A repeat All-MVC first teamer this year, she has three all-conference awards to her ledger. She was an NSCAA Scholar All-Central Region second team selection, MVC All-Tournament team member and MVC Defensive Player of the Week winner in 2011. Cross scored two career goals, both game-winners, and all three career assists came on game-winning goals. She was a senior leader on a Bears' defense that allowed just two goals at home and recorded seven shutouts.

Fouch has a 3.61 GPA and is undecided on a major. She was an MVC All-Freshman team member and All-MVC honorable mention selection in 2001. She was also named MVC Newcomer of the Week on October 4, 2011. Fouch helped a Bears' defense that recorded seven shutouts and allowed just two goals at home in 2012. She has started and played in 36 of the Bears' 37 matches during her career and has two assists to her credit.
