Voet Collects MVC Leadership and Service Award
Nov. 5, 2012
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Senior women's soccer goalkeeper Chelsea Voet has been named Missouri State's fall recipient of the 2012 MVC Leadership and Service Award, the league announced on Monday. Formerly the Good Neighbor Award, the award was created by The Valley in an effort to honor the achievements of exceptional student-athletes. Voet stepped in admirably as a first-year starter in her senior season. She tied for the regular season league lead with seven shutouts on the year en route to an All-MVC honorable mention selection. She was also recognized as a Capital One Academic All-District VI first teamer last week. After blanking Creighton this season, Voet earned MVC Goalkeeper of the Week and MVC Scholar-Athlete of the week honors on October 16 and 17, respectively. Voet was especially stout at home, allowing just two goals at Plaster Field and holding a 685-consecutive minute home shutout streak during the year. In order to be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be in good academic standing, must demonstrate good citizenship through good sportsmanship and significant community service, and must participate in a sport, during the season of recognition. The Valley will recognize 10 student-athletes three times annually (fall, winter, spring), for a total of 30 honorees. Institutions select their MVC Leadership & Service Award honorees.
