Bears End Season with 2-1 Double Overtime loss to Drake in MVC Quarterfinals
 

 

 

The Missouri State women’s soccer team ended their season with a disappointing 2-1 double overtime loss to # 4 seed Drake University in a quarterfinal round of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament Sunday, Nov. 4 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Drake’s Crystal Townley scored the game-winning goal in the 106th minute of the second overtime. Townley fired a shot from inside the box off a pass from midfi elder Sinead Brown past Bears’ keeper Jackie Jasper to give the Bulldogs the 2-1 victory.

Townley’s first goal was scored at the 52:40 mark where she one timed the ball and sent it to the left side of the goal just out of Jasper’s reach.

Sophomore Nicole Logan quickly answered back to tie the game 1-1 less than a minute later. Logan blasted a shot from the center of the box into the back of the net past Drake’s keeper Jenny Schroeder.

Sophomore Samantha Aguilar led the Bears offense with three shots while Logan posted two shots, both on goal.Drake fired a total of 14 shots and limited Missouri State’s offense to only seven.

Jasper recorded three saves between the pipes, while Schroeder tallied four.

The Bears end their season with a 6-11-2 overall record and a 2-2-2 Valley regular season mark.

Drake advances to the semifi nal match in Evansville, Ind. to face off against the #1 seed Illinois State. The match is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. on Nov. 9.
