Soccer Bears take 0-0 draw in defensive battle with Drake
The Missouri State women's soccer team was able to get off just four shots, placing two on goal, in a 0-0 double overtime tie with the Drake Bulldogs Sunday in Missouri Valley Conference action at Cooper Sports Complex. With the tie, Missouri State remains undefeated in MVC action and moves to 8-2-4 on the season and 3-0-2 in Valley play. The Bulldogs remain on top in the Valley standing with a 4-0-1 record and an 8-6-2 overall mark.
The Bears play a non-conference match with Saint Louis, Thursday, at 7 p.m., before traveling to Creighton, Sunday, for their final regular-season Valley match at 1 p.m.
The match was a defensive battle throughout, with the Bears getting the ball into the box on several occasions, but unable to overmatch the tough Drake line. The Bulldogs outshot Missouri State 11-4, but goalkeeper Jackie Jasper (8-2-4) pulled in six saves to keep the Bulldogs off the board.
Junior midfielder Angela Parsons' shot, which was blocked by a DU defender with just over 17 minutes to go in regulation, was the Bears' lone shot of the match before Kate Hercules sent up three shots with just under five minutes to go in the second overtime period, placing two on goal, but unable to send it past Drake goalkeeper Erin Jarvis (8-6-2).
The Bears remain undefeated in six overtime matches this season, allowing just eight shots and no goals in those six matches.
