Oct. 15, 2013
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Missouri State sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Perry picked up her first pieces of hardware as she was named Missouri Valley Conference Goalkeeper of the Week by the league office on Tuesday. She recorded her third shutout of the season on Saturday at Evansville, the fifth-straight unbeaten match for the Bears.
The shutout tie kept the Bears (5-7-2, 2-0-1) in a tie atop the MVC standings. Perry made eight saves in the clean sheet, her second-busiest match of the season, and is the only league keeper with three shutouts on the road. With the shutout, Perry lowers her goals against average to 1.01 for the season, second best in the MVC among regular keepers.
Earlier on Tuesday, the website CollegeSportsMadness.com also named Perry its MVC Player of the Week.
Missouri State returns to Plaster Field this Friday at 7:00 p.m. for an important MVC match against Drake (2-9-3, 0-2-0). Friday's match has been designated Pink Night at Plaster, fans will receive free admission to the match and are encouraged to make a donation to support breast cancer research and will be entered into a drawing for a team autographed pink soccer ball.
