Missouri State's Kelsey Fouch Pockets MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week Award
Oct. 2, 2013
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Missouri State women's soccer defender Kelsey Fouch was named this week's Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league announced Wednesday. Fouch picks up the first league honor of the season bestowed upon the women's soccer team.
Last week, Fouch was a key cog in the Bears backline that propelled MSU to its 14th-straight regular season win over UNI on Friday. Fouch played all 90 minutes at outside-back and helped limit the visiting Panthers to four shots in the match, including just a single shot in the pivotal second half. In addition to her defensive fortitude, Fouch jumped into the attack on several occasions adding to her overall domination on the pitch.
To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
A native of St. Charles, Mo., Fouch holds a cumulative 3.65 grade point average as an exercise and movement science major. She was an Academic All-MVC honorable mention selection last season. Fouch has also been a two-time recipient of the MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award.
The Bears are unbeaten in the last three matches and are 4-2-1 since Sept. 6. MSU sits in a three-way tie atop the league standings and will travel to Chicago this weekend to face fellow league-leader Loyola on Saturday. The Bears will be making their first-ever visit to Loyola for the 7:00 p.m. match versus the Ramblers. MSU then travels to Evansville next week before returning home on Friday, October 18 to take on Drake.
