Women's Soccer Back Home for Pair of Matches This Weekend

The Missouri State women's soccer team (6-4-1, 1-0-0) returns to Plaster Field on Friday for the first of two home matches this weekend.  The Bears will host conference foe Indiana State (6-4-1, 0-1-0) at 7:00 p.m. Friday night.  On Sunday afternoon, Missouri State will play SIU Edwardsville (6-2-1) in a non-conference match at 1:00 p.m. in Springfield.

Missouri State is undefeated in the last two seasons against this weekend's opponents.  The Bears are 2-0-0 all-time against SIU Edwardsville and have shut out the Cougars 2-0 last season and 3-0 in 2008.  MSU and ISU tied at 1-1 last season in Terre Haute, Ind., and the Bears won 4-0 in Springfield in 2008.

The Bears opened conference play last week with a 2-1 win at UNI.  Missouri State opened 1-0-0 in the MVC for the fifth-straight time when facing UNI in the conference opener.

Freshman Brooke Williams leads the Bears on offense.  She has a team-leading five goals, 18 shots, 12 shots on goal and two game-winning goals on the season.  Her five goals are the most by a freshman since Kate Blair had six goals in the 2004 season.

On defense, the Bears have recorded four shutouts on the season.  Junior goalkeeper Jessica Teahan has been credited with two of those shutouts, while Chelsea Voet has shared time with Teahan in the other two shutouts.

Following this weekend's matches, the Bears have two remaining home games this season.  They will host Creighton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 22.  The Bears will then wrap up the regular season with senior night against Evansville at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 28.
