Missouri State Falls to Oral Roberts, 1-0
ORU’s Shakira Duncan scored on a breakaway goal from 5 yards in the 7th minute for the only goal of the game as the Golden Eagles defeated the Missouri State women’s soccer team, 1-0, Friday night at Plaster Field. Missouri State out-shot the Golden Eagles, 18-7, and had many serious scoring threats, but failed to find the back of the net. Missouri State’s Lauren Heck and Meghan Cassady led the way with three shots each, all on goal. Goalkeeper Jackie Jasper recorded three saves, while ORU’s Stef Gurley posted 12.
The lone goal of the match came when ORU’s foward Marissa Ranberger sent a cross to Duncan who found herself one-on-one with Jasper. Duncan blasted a shot past MSU’s keeper to score her third game-winning goal of the season.
Missouri State will hit the road for the next two matches. The Bears will challenge the University of Memphis at 1:00 p.m. in Memphis, Tenn. on Sunday, Sept. 30.
