Bears Invade the Land of Lincoln for Pair of Non-Conference Weekend Matches

The Missouri State women's soccer team (1-6-0) head to the state of Illinois for a pair of weekend matches at Western Illinois and SIU Edwardsville. MSU faces WIU in Macomb on Friday at 3:00 p.m. and tangles with the Cougars in Edwardsville on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The Bears are 3-2-1 all-time in non-conference matches in the state and are a combined 5-1-1 all-time against this weekend's opponents.

Last Friday at Central Arkansas, Missouri State corralled its first victory of the season. It also marked the first multi-goal output since the exhibition opener. Freshman Alaina Derse scored the game-winning goal on her first career shot attempt. Sophomore Lauren Josten also scored her first career goal in the win.

Senior Shelby Stewart leads Missouri State with two goals and four points this season. Molly Huber has two assists, tops on the squad. Molly Brewer also has an assist and leads the team in shots taken with 10.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Perry picked up her first shutout in a Bears' uniform in the 2-0 win at UCA last Friday. She leads all Valley keepers in saves and is the only MVC keeper with a clean sheet on the road this season.

Western Illinois is 4-2-0 this season with two of those victories coming against MVC foe UNI. The Cougars sit at 4-1-0 after wins over Drake and Indiana State. SIUE plays Loyola on Friday before the Bears get to Edwardsville.

The Bears return home on Tuesday, September 17 at 7:00 p.m. vs. UMKC. The match against the Kangaroos will be televised on Mediacom, check local listing for broadcast times.
