Big Weekend of Soccer Ahead at Plaster Field for the Bears
The Missouri State soccer programs have a big weekend of action ahead at Plaster Field. On Friday, the women's team (3-2-0) hosts Oklahoma at 5:00 p.m. with the men's team hosting Green Bay at 7:30 p.m. Then on Sunday, the men host IUPUI at 1:30 p.m. with the women welcoming Arkansas at 4:00 p.m.
The men's match on Friday is the team's regular season home opener. The Bears are off to a slow start at 0-2-0, but the last time that occurred in 2001, Missouri State rebounded to post a 10-9-1 record and reached the MVC Tournament semifinals. The Bears' opponent on Friday, Green Bay, was an NCAA Tournament team in 2009. The last time the two squads met, Missouri State won 2-1 on September 20, 1998.
Friday's opponent for the women, Oklahoma, brings a three-game unbeaten streak to town. Since dropping their opening match against rival Oklahoma State, the Sooners are 2-0-1. Missouri State hopes to avenge a 3-0 loss in Norman, Okla., a year ago. Friday's match will mark the Sooners' first-ever appearance at Plaster Field.
On Sunday, the women's team hosts a Razorback team that is 2-2-0 on the season. The Bears beat Arkansas, 3-2, in double overtime to open the 2006 season, the last time Missouri State defeated Arkansas. Last season, the Razorbacks shutout the Bears, 2-0, in Fayetteville, Ark.
The men's team has only faced IUPUI one time in team history. It was a 1-0 Bears shutout on September 29, 2007, at the Bradley Homecoming Classic in Peoria, Ill. The Jaguars are 1-1-0 and will play at Central Arkansas before arriving in Springfield.
