Billikens shut out Bears 1-0
The Missouri State University women’s soccer team was unsuccessful in finding the back of the net in its match against in-state challenger Saint Louis University as the Billikens blanked the Bears 1-0 Sunday afternoon in Springfield, Mo. With the loss, the Bears dip to 3-2 on the season.
SLU’s Kelly Waeckerle scored the lone goal of the contest in the 37th minute of the first half. Waeckerle dribbled the ball past the Bears’ defense and blasted a shot from 18 yards past MSU goalkeeper Jackie Jasper into the back of the net.
Sophomore Jenna Laughlin led the offense for the Bears posting three shots, two on goal. The Bears registered only seven shots, four on goal as a team and were unable to create an offensive attack during the match. The Bears applied defensive pressure in the second half but could not produce a scoring opportunity for themselves.
Missouri State’s Jasper (3-2) recorded three saves for the match as she took the loss and SLU’s Hannah Koesterer (1-2) earned the win.
The Bears hit the road for the next four matches. The Bears will play Murray State University on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 3 p.m. in Murray, Ky.
