Missouri State Falls to Nebraska, 2-1
The Missouri State women’s soccer team dropped its first game of the season in a 2-1 decision Friday, September 7 to the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska. With the loss the Bears are now 3-1 on the season and the Cornhuskers improve to 2-0-1.
Junior goalkeeper Jackie Jasper recorded five saves in the match but the Cornhuskers’ offense still managed to find the back of the net. NU gained an early lead on the Bears recording two first-half goals by forward Shay Powell and midfielder Sari Raber.
Missouri State battled in the second half firing five shots and scoring their lone goal. Junior Caroline Sweeney scored in the 71st minute off a left side free kick from Jordan Reppell. Sweeney came up with the lose ball in the scramble just a few yards from the goal and blasted the ball past NU’s goalkeeper Jessica Mills.
The Bears matched the Cornhuskers with six shots in the first-half, but NU had a 6-5 shot advantage in the second.
Missouri State will be back at home on Sunday, September 15, at Plaster Field to challenge Saint Louis University at 4:00 p.m.
