Bears Triumph over Oral Roberts, 4-0, for Third Straight Shutout Win
The Missouri State women's soccer team (3-1) earned its third consecutive shutout victory by defeating Oral Roberts (2-2) in Tulsa, Okla., Friday night by a score of 4-0. Freshman Brooke Williams scored her team-leading third goal of the season in the 29th minute to put the Bears in front 1-0. She stole the ball from an Oral Roberts player near midfield and had a breakaway to beat the Golden Eagle keeper. Just before halftime, Missouri State would score again. This time Nia Williams served a corner kick into the box. After a brief scramble in front of the net, senior Sarah Linsin beat the keeper into the upper half of the net. The goal was Linsin's first since her freshman season. The Bears continued to battle in the second half and Katelyn Frederickson tallied her first collegiate goal in the 62nd minute to put the Bears ahead, 3-0. Rachel Weimer served a ball in that deflected off of the post to Frederickson for the goal. The Bears got their fourth goal when the Golden Eagles put in an own goal. Junior goalkeeper Jessica Teahan started and made the only two saves of the match for the Bears. Chelsea Voet replaced Teahan in net late and preserved the shutout. The Bears racked up 18 shots with Frederickson and Weimer leading the way with four shots apiece. Tiffany Laughlin added three shots, two on net. It was the third-straight match that Missouri State recorded 18 or more shots. The Bears will continue the weekend with a 1:00 p.m. match at the University of Tulsa on Sunday afternoon. Missouri State will return home for matches against Oklahoma and Arkansas on Friday and Sunday, respectively. Friday's match versus the Sooners will start at 5:00 p.m.
