As the Missouri State women's soccer team prepares for the regular season opener on Friday against Oral Roberts, we take a look at this year's team in a four-part position preview. Today, we focus on the forwards.

Missouri State was the only Valley team to boast a pair of forwards on the preseason all-conference squad in Rachel Weimer and Molly Huber. A tandem that fared well in preseason as Weimer scored twice against Butler CC last Friday.

Last season, Weimer was an All-MVC second teamer after leading the Bears in scoring with six goals and 14 points. Three of her goals were game-winners and she has five game-winners in her career, tied for fourth in school history.

Huber transferred to Missouri State after two seasons at Kentucky. She saw action in eight matches last season and scored twice in her freshman campaign with the Wildcats. This summer, Huber won the USASA U23 National Championship with club team St. Louis Scott Gallagher.

"I feel we have a good balance up top," said head coach Rob Brewer. "We have players that create good opportunities for us. We have to put the ball in the back of the net and I am confident that this group can do that."

Sophomore Molly Brewer had a successful first season as a Bear, picking up MVC All-Freshman team accolades. She lead MSU with five assists last year and added three goals, two of which were game-winners.

Fellow sophomore Kristina Tomaras showed improved confidence during the preseason, leading the team with three exhibition goals. She recorded her first point at MSU a year ago with an assist against Nebraska-Omaha.

Senior Shelby Stewart has been a reliable forward in her three seasons with MSU. She looks to join the mix up front after scoring three goals and adding an assist last season.

Lauren Josten also saw time at forward during the exhibition matches. Her versatility will be an asset this season.

Sophomore Nikki Kerrigan played 13 matches as a freshman, picking up an assist on the game-winning goal against UALR. She will redshirt this season due to injury.

Missouri State opens the regular season with a four-game home stand this Friday, August 23 against Oral Roberts. The Bears and Golden Eagles kick off at 7:00 p.m. at Plaster Field.
