Aug. 15, 2014
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Missouri State senior defender Kelsey Fouch was a unanimous selection to the preseason All-Missouri Valley Conference team, the league office announced in its preseason release on Friday (August 15). The Bears are picked to finish tied for fourth as voted by the league coaches.
Fouch, an All-MVC first team selection and MVC Defensive Player of the Year in 2013, is one of nine returning starters for MSU. She is one of five seniors and will once again be the vocal leader of the Bears' backline. Fouch has started all 54 matches that she has appeared in for MSU.
The Bears picked up 26 points and tied with Evansville for fourth in the league preseason standings. Illinois State earned 48 points and was selected to repeat as league front-runners after winning the regular season and MVC Tournament titles in 2013. Indiana State (37 points) and Loyola (32) were picked ahead of MSU with Drake (14) and UNI (13) rounding out the preseason poll.
The Bear get the season underway on Saturday (August 16) with a 7:00 p.m. exhibition match versus former MVC rival Creighton in the first event ever to be held at the new Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium. Following Saturday's opener, the Bears will host crosstown foe Drury at 8:00 p.m. on Monday (August 18) in the exhibition finale.
The Bears open the regular season in Kansas City on August 22 with a 7:00 p.m. tilt against UMKC. MSU will face Utah State at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday August 24 in the first regular season match at the new stadium.
