Missouri State Women's Soccer Releases Schedule for the 2010 Season
Missouri State University women's soccer head coach Rob Brewer announced his team's schedule for the upcoming 2010 season today.
The Bears will play eight regular season and two exhibition matches at Plaster Field this season. MSU will host five non-conference and three MVC foes at Plaster Field, including a Big 12 and an SEC opponent.
Missouri State will open the season on August 22 at North Texas. The Bears are 2-0-1 all time against the Mean Green. "North Texas will be a good introduction to college soccer for our newcomers," said Brewer.
The Bears' home opener is on August 27 at 7 p.m. against UALR. MSU defeated the Trojans 3-1 a year ago. Tennessee-Martin visits Plaster Field two days later. The Bears are a collective 16-0-1 all-time against these two opponents.
"It's an ambitious schedule," stated Brewer. "We have a very challenging stretch to begin September, but it should be a good test for our kids leading up to conference play."
Missouri State will spend the first weekend of September in Tulsa to face Oral Roberts on Friday, September 3 and the Golden Hurricane on Sunday, September 5. The next weekend will see the Big 12's Oklahoma and the SEC's Arkansas come to Springfield.
The Bears will then head out on their longest road trip of the season. Stops at Saint Louis and Kansas await before opening conference play at UNI on September 24. The final stop of the road trip will be at UMKC on September 26.
"The MVC is always tough," continued Brewer. "There are a number of good teams in the league with some strong teams at the top, but very balanced from top to bottom."
The Bears return home to face MVC opponent Indiana State on October 1. SIU Edwardsville comes to Plaster Field two days later as the final non-conference matchup of the season. Missouri State will make stops at Illinois State and Drake to end their road portion of the regular season schedule.
Creighton visits Plaster Field on October 22 as Missouri State looks to avenge the only loss against a conference opponent last season. The Bears will host Evansville on October 28 to end the regular season before heading to Omaha, Neb., for the State Farm MVC Tournament.
MSU will host Central Missouri and Drury for exhibition matches on August 16 and 19, respectively, before opening the regular season.
This season will mark a milestone in head coach Rob Brewer's career. The Bears' first win of the season will be the 200th of his career as a head coach. In 14 seasons with the Bears, Brewer has compiled 131 victories. He had 68 coaching wins at Elon before coming to Missouri State, and his career record stands at 199-144-32.
The Bears ended last season 9-6-3 and finished second in the MVC with a 4-1-1 conference record, the best league finish in team history. Missouri State took host Creighton to overtime before being eliminated in the semifinals of the 2009 MVC Tournament.
