Missouri State Women's Soccer Unveils 2014 Schedule

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Missouri State women's soccer coach Rob Brewer announced the completion of his squad's 2014 schedule today. The team will host nine regular season and two exhibition matches at the new Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium at the center of campus.
"We are excited to play in a soccer-specific facility in the heart of campus," said Brewer. "Having a plethora of home games early will give us the chance to get a bit more training done. We have a challenging schedule that will make us battle hardened once we get to MVC play. We have a lot of solid returners and look forward to competing in front of the home fans."
The Bears will host former league foe Creighton in an exhibition match on Saturday, August 16, the first match at the new stadium. Crosstown opponent Drury will also come to campus for an exhibition two days later.
MSU opens the regular season on the road with a match at UMKC. The regular season home opener is slated for Sunday, August 24 when the Bears host Utah State at 1:00 p.m. It will mark the first-ever matchup between the two programs.
Missouri State will travel to Tulsa to close out the month of August. While in Oklahoma, the Bears will face the Golden Hurricane and Oral Roberts.
The Bears return to Springfield for five of its next six games to open September. MSU will host Arkansas State and Central Arkansas on September 7 and 12, respectively. A road match at Arkansas on Sept. 14 interrupts the home stand. Missouri State will host its final home non-conference game during its longest home stand of the year. UALR, SIU Edwardsville and Nebraska-Omaha visit Springfield for matches on Sept. 19, 21 and 25.
Missouri State opens MVC play at Illinois State on Sept. 28. The Redbirds were the Valley regular season and tournament champions in 2013.
The Bears play Indiana State at home on October 3 before travelling to Lawrence, Kan., for a Sunday afternoon match against the Jayhawks. MSU returns to Springfield for another conference clash against Evansville on Oct. 11.
MSU begins the second half of league play at Drake on Oct. 18. The Bears will conclude the home slate on Saturday, October 25 when Loyola makes its first-ever trip to Springfield. The 7:00 p.m. match against the Ramblers will mark Senior Night for the Bears.
The regular season concludes on Oct. 30 as MSU travels to Cedar Falls, Iowa to play UNI. Following the regular season, the top six teams will advance to the MVC Women's Soccer Championship.
Missouri State returns 17 letterwinners and nine starters from last year's squad that finished fourth in the MVC with a 2-2-2 record. The Bears were 5-10-4 last season and were knocked out of the MVC Tournament on penalty kicks by Evansville in the first round.
