Missouri State women's soccer head coach Rob Brewer announced today that he has 11 commitments from players to join the program for the 2012 season.
"There is excellent speed among the newcomers that will add to the overall team speed," said Brewer. "We are replacing a strong senior class, so we expanded geographically to recruit quality players. I know this age group well having watched my daughter compete over the past few years."
2012 Women's Soccer Commitments:
Molly Brewer, F/D, Springfield, Mo. (Glendale High/St. Louis Scott Gallagher)
Brewer has started and lettered in each of her first three seasons for head coach Jeff Rogers' Glendale squad. She led the Falcons to regional, district and conference titles in 2011, a season that saw Glendale finish third at state. She earned first-team all-state, all-district and all-conference and offensive player of the year honors as a junior. She was named to the all-district first team her sophomore season. Brewer became the first GHS freshman to earn first-team all-state accolades. In addition, she was named regional player of the year after leading her team to regional, district and conference championships. Her club team, St. Louis Scott Gallagher, has won the State Cup each of the last three seasons and finished second nationally in 2011. Her father, Rob, coaches the MSU women's soccer team and played collegiately at Lynchburg College.
Lauren Fussell, M/D, St. Louis, Mo. (Oakville High/St. Louis Scott Gallagher)
Fussell is a three-year starter and letterwinner, entering her senior season for head coach Dave Robbin at Oakville High. She was named to the All-Suburban West Conference first team as a junior after she tallied four goals and 10 assists for the Tigers. She was named Outstanding Player of the Year by her teammates. As a sophomore, she scored one goals and added five assists despite missing part of the year with an injury. Fussell earned Rookie of the Year honors from her teammates as a freshman after she scored seven goals, including a game-winner, and nine assists. She won three-straight State Cup titles with her club team, St. Louis Scott Gallagher, including a runner-up finish at nationals in 2011. Fussell also played softball and basketball at Oakville High.
Lauren Josten, M, St. Peters, Mo. (Duchesne High/St. Louis Scott Gallagher Red)
Josten enters her senior season as a three-year starter and letterwinner for head coach Dave Thurmer at Duchesne High. She earned all-conference first team and all-state honorable mention honors as a junior. She had a team-leading eight assists to go along with six goals her sophomore season en route to an all-conference first team selection. As a freshman, Josten scored five goals, including the game-winner in the district final, to lead the Pioneers to state and district championships. In the state final, she added two of her team-leading 10 assists. Josten was a conference all-academic team honoree all three seasons. She also competed a year each in basketball, cross country and softball at Duchesne High. Her father, Tim, player collegiate baseball at Dayton.
Cassandra Le, D, White Bear Lake, Minn. (White Bear Lake High/St. Croix Soccer Club)
Le started and lettered all four years for head coach Jim Pelletier's Bears. She was an all-conference selection and most valuable player as a senior as a member of the sectional semifinalist team. She added a pair of goals and assists in 18 games. She started all 16 games as a junior and was named to the all-conference honorable mention squad. Le led her team to a sectional final and earned all-conference honorable mention accolades as a sophomore. Her team was a sectional finalist her freshman season as well. Le earned the Academic Excellence Award all four seasons. Her club team, the St. Croix Soccer Club, was Minnesota State Cup winner each of the last two seasons, reaching the national finals in 2011.
Alix Opfer, M/D, Springfield, Mo. (Glendale High/Springfield Soccer Club)
Opfer has been a three-year starter and letterwinner for head coach Jeff Rogers and the Glendale Falcons. She led her team to regional, district and conference titles as a team captain her junior year. She was named regional and district defensive MVP and earned all-conference, all-district, all-region and all-Ozarks first team honors, while being named to the all-state second team. Her sophomore campaign saw her earn all-conference and all-district second team laurels along with Glendale Varsity MVC honors. Opfer was a second-team all-conference, all-district and all-Ozarks selection while leading her team to conference, district and regional titles as a freshman. She also played four years on the Glendale volleyball team. Her father, Scott, played football and her mother, Tracy, competed in gymnastics at Winona State.
Kayla Seabaugh, M/D, Perryville, Mo. (St. Vincent High/St. Louis Scott Gallagher)
Seabaugh was a starter and letterwinner for head coach Dusty Wengert on a St. Vincent squad that won at least 20 games in each of her first three seasons. She has been a three-time all-state, all-region and all-district first teamer. As a junior, she was named JCAA Player of the Year, Southeast Co-Defensive Player of the Year and KTJJ Regional Dream Team Honoree and Player of the Year after scoring nine goals and 10 assists for a team that finished second at state. She scored 10 goals and added eight assists as a sophomore and earned team defensive MVP honors. Her freshman season, she scored 11 goals, including the game-winner in the state semifinal match, and pitched in 11 assists. She led St. Vincent to a state title as an all-conference honorable mention honoree. Seabaugh played basketball and softball for four seasons as well.
Rachel Sebald, GK, Menomonee Falls, Wis. (Wisconsin Lutheran High/Milwaukee Sport Club)
Sebald has started and lettered in each of her first three seasons for head coach Ryan Herrmann at Wisconsin Lutheran. Her junior season, she started all 18 matches, leading the Vikings to a 13-5 record. She led her team to a runner-up conference finish her sophomore season. As a freshman, she started 15 matches for a team that went 15-3 and tied for first in conference. Sebald also played basketball and volleyball at WLHS. Her brother, Luke, is currently a member of the St. Cloud State football team.
Lauren Shadel, D, Las Vegas, Nev. (Arbor View High/Players Soccer Club)
Shadel has played three seasons at Arbor View High in Las Vegas, Nev. She scored four goals and had an assist for the Aggies as a junior. She earned All-Sunset Region and All-Northwest League honors along with the scholar athlete award. As a sophomore, Shadel scored two goals and led Arbor View to regional and state titles for an Aggies team that went 18-1-1. As a freshman, she led the JV squad with nine goals and three assists and earned the coach's award. She has been a team captain on her club team all four years and led them to a State Cup title in 2011. Her club team also finished third in the State Cup in 2010. She has also played in tournaments in Denmark and Norway for her club team where the team finished in the top-8 and top-16, respectively. Shadel competed in track for one season at Arbor View High.
Kimberlea Smith, GK, Glendale, Ariz. (Mountain Ridge High/Sereno Soccer Club 94 Blues)
Smith started all four seasons for head coach Andrew Lang at Mountain Ridge High. She set a school record by making 152 saves her senior season. She also capped her MRH career as the all-time leader in saves (341), career GAA (0.882), career save percentage (0.886), wins (28) and games started (43). She led the Mountain Lions to back-to-back regional titles her junior and sophomore seasons. She was an all-region and all-state selection as a junior after posting seven clean sheets. Smith also had seven shutouts with a 0.63 goals against average as a sophomore. She went undefeated her freshman campaign (3-0-1) with two shutouts. Smith was her club team's captain the last three years and led them to the Arizona President Cup State championship as a junior. In the last three seasons, she has registered 30 clean sheets for her club team.
Erin Stewart, M, Bennington, Neb. (Marian High/Toro Bravo)
Stewart has lettered the last three seasons for head coach Ed Dudley's Marian Crusaders. She has led her team to the district title in each of her first three seasons at Marian High. She was an all-state honorable mention honoree for the state quarterfinalists as a junior. Her sophomore season, she led the Crusaders to a state title and a 17-3 record overall. As a freshman, she helped her team reach the state semifinals. Stewart led her club team, Toro Bravo, to the Nebraska State Cup Championship in each of the last three seasons. In her four seasons with Toro Bravo, the team has racked up 96 victories.
Kristina Tomaras, F, Aurora, Ill. (Benet Academy/Chicago Fire Juniors Red 11)#MSUBears
Tomaras enters her senior season at Benet Academy as a team captain. She played her junior season at Metea Valley High and scored nine goals along with 12 assists as a team captain. She received all-conference honorable mention accolades and helped the team to a regional title. She missed her prep sophomore season due to injury. As a freshman, Tomaras led Waubonsie Valley High to a regional title and the sectional finals. She led her club team to the NSR Gold Cup three-straight years and reached the State Cup finals and semifinals her sophomore and junior years, respectively. Her club team won the MRL Premier League and competed in the national league her senior year and were MRL Division I champs her freshman campaign. Her sophomore season, they won the Disney Showcase
