Fourth-Straight 1-0 Shutout Lands MSU 150th Women's Soccer Win
Oct. 7, 2011
The Missouri State women’s soccer team (9-3-1, 3-0-0) scored its fourth-straight 1-0 victory to earn the program’s 150th win over visiting Drake (3-6-4, 1-2-0) at Plaster Field on Friday night. “I am really happy to see the way we are defending as a team,” said head coach Rob Brewer. “I think Bethany (Smith) was probably the best player on the field tonight.” Freshman forward Bethany Smith found the back of the net again for the Bears, netting the game-winner in the 14th minute. A turnover near midfield, landed the ball at the feet of senior Tara Bailes. She sent a pass forward towards the top of the box to sophomore Shelby Stewart. Stewart flicked the ball forward and Smith battled through two Drake defenders to get an open look at the net. The goal was Smith’s team-leading fourth of the year. Senior Jessica Teahan continued to pile up the shutouts, earning her sixth of the season and 18th of her career. She made six saves and got an assist from a teammate on another Bulldog shot to keep a fourth-straight clean sheet. She has not allowed a goal in the last 451 minutes of play. Smith led all offensive players with six of MSU’s 17 total shots. Christine Cross added four shots and Kelsey Fouch chipped in three others. Missouri State will travel to Edwardsville, Ill., to face SIUE on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The Bears will then head to Omaha, Neb., to face conference-rival Creighton on Saturday, October 15 at 4:30 p.m. MSU will host UNI on Saturday, October 22 for senior night at 7:00 p.m.
