CONWAY, Ark. - The Missouri State women's soccer team (1-5-0) saw a number of firsts on the pitch in Conway, Ark., on Friday, including the first win of the season, a 2-0 victory over Central Arkansas (2-2-0). Freshman Alaina Derse and sophomore Lauren Josten each scored their first career goals for Missouri State in the win.

"It was good seeing players step up," said head coach Rob Brewer. "Our midfielders did a good job of keeping possession and when we started to move the ball, things opened up for us. The team did a fantastic job closing out the game."

Derse scored in the 37th minute with a deflection in off the post to give MSU a 1-0 lead. Her eventual game-winning goal came on her first career shot.

Three minutes later, Josten netted her first collegiate goal, a blast into the upper right corner of the net.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Perry also recorded her first win in a Bears' uniform. She needed to make just two saves to sew up her first clean sheet for Missouri State.

MSU out-shot UCA 8-5 in the match. Molly Brewer and Rachel Weimer recorded a pair of shots each to lead the charge for Missouri State.

The Bears continue the weekend trip to Arkansas with a 1:00 p.m. match at UALR on Sunday. Following this weekend's matches, Missouri State will travel to the state of Illinois for matches at Western Illinois (Sept. 13) and SIU Edwardsville (Sept. 15) to wrap up a five-game road swing. The Bears return home on September 17 at 7:00 p.m. vs. UMKC.
