MSU Defeats Drury 3-0 in Crosstown Clash at Allison South
Aug. 18, 2014
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Missouri State women's soccer team were convincing in a 3-0 victory over Drury at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium on Monday night. MSU turned a 1-0 halftime advantage into a 3-0 win.
"Some of the combination play was a lot better," said head coach Rob Brewer. "We are happy to see three goals. Our defense was pretty solid again. We found some physicality in a couple of players and that has helped a lot. It is a great start for us."
In the second half, Molly Brewer increased the Bears' lead. In the 62nd minute, she took a feed from Molly Huber up the right side. Her sharp angle shot from near the end line sailed over the keeper and skirted inside the post for her second tally of the preseason.
Kristina Tomaras added her second exhibition match goal in the 71st minute when she corralled a loose ball near the top of the box. She lifted a shot over the keeper to cap the 3-0 win.
The Bears controlled a majority of play, outshooting the Panthers 22-6 in the match. Huber had six shots and Nikki Kerrigan added three to lead the charge.
The Bears open the regular season in Kansas City on August 22 with a 7:00 p.m. tilt against UMKC. MSU will face Utah State at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday August 24 in the first regular season match at the new stadium. A free post-game autograph session will follow the home opener.
