ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Missouri State women's soccer wrapped up the exhibition slate with a 2-0 loss at Saint Louis on Saturday night. The Billikens got a pair of late goals to spoil a solid second outing by the Bears.

Missouri State and Saint Louis mostly played a possession game in the first half. The teams combined for just three shots total in the half. The Bears earned a pair of corners in the first half and SLU earned three.

The Billikens had the best scoring chance in the first half. In the 43rd minute, SLU was awarded a free kick about 25 yards directly in front of goal. The kick cleared the MSU wall and goalkeeper Chelsea Voet punched the ball over the net to keep the match scoreless.

The Bears got some consistent offensive pressure early in the second half. Kelsey Goff was able to get a hard shot off in traffic from about 10 yards in front of the net in the 54th minute. The SLU keeper was in position and tipped the ball over the net to give MSU the first of consecutive corner kicks.

Momentum swung in Saint Louis' direction about midway through the half. The Billikens chipped a shot over Voet, but Grace Cross headed the ball out of play in the 71st minute to preserve the clean sheet.

In the 79th minute, SLU would break the tie. Jenny Hummert slid a low shot past reserve goalkeeper Rachel Sebald to give the Billikens a 1-0 lead.

MSU continued to push on offense. Molly Brewer tested the SLU keeper in the 83rd minute and Kelsey Fouch's attempt was sent high.

Then in the 86th minute, Saint Louis added a second goal. A scramble in the MSU 18-yard box resulted in Abbey Stock finding the back of the net. For the game, SLU outshot the Bears 12-7.



The Bears will begin the regular season on Friday (Aug. 17) at Plaster Field with a home match versus UALR at 7:00 p.m. MSU will also play North Texas on Sunday (Aug. 19) as part of the two-game home stand to begin the season. Kick off between the Bears and Mean Green is set for 1:00 p.m.
