At Missouri State: Shannon Russell looks to return to the Bears defense after missing last season with an injury. 2009: Russell missed the entire 2009 season due to injury. 2008: A second-year letterwinner, Russell saw action in 18 matches for the Bears. She received five starting assignments during the season. 2007: Russell played in 18 games including two starts at defender, helping the Bears' defense hold opponents to a 0.81 goals against average. She was named to the MVC All-Freshman team. Background: Russell and high school teammate Sarah Linsin came to the Bears' program after leading Blue Valley West High School to the state quarterfinals in 2007. Russell also joined Linsin on the Kansas 6A All-State second team and Eastern Kansas League first team as a senior. As a junior, Russell was selected to the all-state first team after leading the Jaguars to the state finals. She was on the Eastern Kansas League first team and was an All-Sun County honorable mention pick. In her sophomore season, Russell helped guide Blue Valley West to the state championship. Russell was also a member of the KCFC Soccer Club that finished second at state in 2007 and was selected to the ODP State Team. Personal: Russell is the daughter of Woody Russell and Debbie Johnson and was born December 7, 1988. She is majoring in exercise and movement science. Her sister, Sam, played soccer for Creighton from 2004 to 2007.
