Michelle Sommer talks about her future plans

At Missouri State: Michelle Sommer looks to continue to initiate scoring chances for the Bears from her midfield position.

2011: Sommer earned All-MVC second team honors after firing 57 shots, the fourth-highest single season total in Bears history. She was named MVC Offensive Player of the Week (9/27) after scoring the game-winning goal against Indiana State (9/23) and assisting on the game-winning goal versus Saint Louis (9/25), both 1-0 victories. Sommer's other assist of the season came in the MVC Tournament semifinal win over UNI (11/4). She scored her first goal of the year on Aug. 26 at UT Martin, a game in which the Bears prevailed, 2-1. She started all 17 matches she played in and put 24 shots on frame. Sommer earned Academic All-MVC first team and CoSIDA Academic All-District VI second team accolades for her consistency on and off the field.

2010: Sommer gave the Bears two overtime wins with key goals in the extra period. She scored game-winning overtime goals in 2-1 wins at UMKC (9/26) and versus Creighton (10/22). Her third goal of the season came in the conference-opening win at UNI (9/24). She also tallied her first career assist at a key moment of the season. It came in the MVC Tournament semifinal match against Illinois State (11/5). Off the pitch, Sommer earned MVC Scholar-Athlete honorable mention accolades.

2009: Sommer appeared in 17 of the Bears 18 matches. She started four matches at midfield for MSU. She scored her lone goal of the season at UALR (9/4). She tallied 12 shots, good for eighth on the team, with four shots on goal.

Background: Sommer was named team MVP her sophomore, junior and senior seasons as the team captain. Her freshman year, she was named newcomer of the year. She was named to the all-league and all-region first team all four years as the Wildcats won 40 matches over the span of her career. Sommer also received all-state and all-city honors all four years. She also played basketball all four years of high school, leading her team to a state runner-up finish her senior season.

Personal: Sommer is the daughter of Mark and Becky Sommer and was born September 24, 1990. She is majoring in cell and molecular biology at MSU.
