Bears Sweep Weekly Missouri Valley Conference Golf Honors
Missouri State juniors Will Hogan and Kelsey Welber have been named Missouri Valley Conference Men's and Women's Golfer of the Week, respectively, giving the Bears a sweep of the league's weekly honor for the second time this season. Previously, Hogan had been named along with the Bears' Catherine Dolan.
Hogan was medalist Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 25-26) at the Doubletree Intercollegiate hosted by Southern Illinois at Edwardsville, shooting 74-70-71--215, one under par, and leading the Bears to the team title at Sunset Hills Country Club in suburban St. Louis. The Ozark, Mo., native ended the fall season with a 73.07 scoring average and is the top-ranked player in the MVC, according to Golfstat.
Welber posted her second top-five finish in as many weeks, tying for fifth of 96 players and leading MSU to a runner-up finish at the Memphis Invitational in Germantown, Tenn. She carded 76-76--152 in the rain-shortened event at Ridgeway Country Club just a week after placing second in the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial. Welber, from Plano, Texas, has a 77.00 scoring average and is ranked third in the Valley by Golfstat.
