Welber Third Individually After 36 Holes at ORU Shootout, Bears Fifth as a Team
Freshman Kelsey Welber led the Bears on Monday, October 6 to a fifth place standing as a team after the first 36 holes of the Bob Hurley Auto ORU Shootout. Missouri State is one of 17 teams at the tournament which is being played at Medowbrook Country Club in Tulsa, Okla. The course, a par 72, 6,340-yard layout played tough for the first 36 holes due to strong winds.
The tournament host, Oral Roberts, is in first place in the team competition after shooting rounds of 301 and 305 for a total of 606 after 36 holes. Four strokes behind is Texas El Paso at 610. Lamar is in third with consecutive rounds of 309 for a 36-hole total of 618. In fourth, only a stroke ahead of the Bears is Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 623. The Bears follow closely and posted 18-hole rounds of 308 in the morning and 316 in the afternoon for a total of 624.
Welber led the Bears individually for 36 holes on Monday with an even-par round of 72 in the morning, followed by a round of 75 in the afternoon. She is three-over-par for the tournament and is in third place. She trails the leader, Christy Carter of Oral Roberts by only four strokes. Carter posted rounds of 73-70 for a total of 143.
Senior Amy Phalajivin was second for the Bears individually with two steady rounds of 78. Phalajivin carded a 36-hole score of 156 and is tied 18th place. Only a stroke behind Phalajivin is freshman Catherine Dolan. Dolan is currently in a tie for 24th place with 76-81157. Also for the Bears were seniors Lindsey Wellenstein and Mallory Mahon. Wellestein carded consecutive 18-hole rounds of 82, for a total score of 164. Mahon shot 84-83 for a 36-hole score of 167. Wellenstein and Mahon are tied for 57th and 69th place respectively.
The Bears will play the third and final round of the Bob Hurley Auto ORU Shootout on Tuesday, October 7. Play will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will consist of 18 holes.
