Hinton wins second straight, team finishes fourth at Nebraska
Led by senior Sally Hinton’s second tournament victory in a row, the Missouri State women’s golf team posted a three-round total of 945 to finish fourth at the Chip-N Club Invitational held at the par-72, 6,040-yard Yankee Hill Country Club in Lincoln, Neb. Host Nebraska won the event by six shots over Campbell University, finishing with a 929 team total.
Hinton captured her second consecutive tournament title on the second playoff hole. Hinton and Nebraska’s Chrissie McArdle both missed the green, leaving themselves difficult up-and-downs to save par. McArdle chipped to eight feet and lipped out a par putt, while Hinton put her chip slightly closer and drained a six-footer to earn medalist honors. The senior got better with each round, finishing with a final total of 13-over-par 229 (80-75-74).
Missy Linnens was the Bears’ other top 10 finisher, firing a second-round 73 to solidify her ninth-place score of 235 (84-73-78). Lyndsey Adams tied for 18th, carding a consistent three-round total of 241 (81-79-81), and Amy Phalaljivin totaled a 242 (85-78-79) to finish in a tie for 21st. Stacey Rodger rounded out the lineup for the Bears, tying for 42nd with a 251 (85-87-79).
The women’s golf team will next be in action Oct. 2 and 3 at the Oral Roberts Shootout in Tulsa, Okla.
