Dolan Soars, But Bears Off to Slow Start at Redbird Invitational
The Missouri State women's golf team got its season off to a slow start Saturday (Sept. 11), shooting 310-316--626 to stand in fifth place after the first day of the Redbird Invitational in Normal, Ill. Junior Catherine Dolan was a bright spot for the Bears, though, as she is tied for third place after posting 74-74--148, two shots off the pace set by Northern Iowa's Blair Bonner. Illinois State sits atop the team standings after shooting 301-302--603 on a blustery day at the 6074-yard, par 71 Weibring Golf Course. Wichita State is second with 306-309--615, followed by Northern Iowa at 312-305--617 and Southern Illinois with 302-319--621. Then come the Bears, followed by Bradley (635), Detroit Mercy (636), Drake (650), Illinois Wesleyan (658), Northern Illinois (660) and Indiana State (660). For the Bears, junior Emily Potts and sophomore Emma Clegg followed Dolan in a tie for 21st with 160 totals; Potts carded 78-82 and Clegg 81-79. Freshman Rikke Falsner shot 80-81--161 and is tied for 24th, while Kelsey Welber and Hermine Greyling are tied for 30th at 162. Welber posted 78-84 and Greyling 83-79. Sunday's final 18 holes is slated for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
